This past weekend the Pennsylvania Kayak Fishing Association and its parent organization, the Suskie Bassmasters, held their 2nd annual Shickshinny bass tournament, the Susquehanna Slamma. The event incorporated two divisions, powerboats and kayaks. There were eight powerboat teams entered, and 25 kayak competitors.
Kayak anglers started to arrive Saturday morning for a day of pre-fishing, followed by a night of camping in the park venue. A total of 14 kayak anglers stayed up late for a night of fellowship.
Registration opened early on Sunday morning, and the powerboaters launched just ahead of the paddlers. Following a brief captain’s meeting, the kayak anglers were given their photo identifiers, and were then free to fish the Susquehanna River, anywhere between Hunlock Creek to the north and Berwick to the south.
At 2:00pm the kayak anglers returned to the park in Shickshinny, photo cards and cell phones in-hand, to decide the largest four bass and biggest fish of the day. At 2:30pm, the kayak division awards were announced, followed by the powerboats. Shortly thereafter, Jim Dutt, from Smallie Stix, had a drawing for two custom rods!
